21 Months

Where o where does the time go? I have an almost two year old! At the end of this summer my sweet little boy will officially be a toddler! Harper is growing up so fast!

This month as been a month of change. We have officially done away with the paci. We did it unexpectedly and did it cold turkey! It took about 4 days of tears, but I think they have all disappeared! Woohoo! Harper also got his last molars this month. I think that means no more teeth until he is 6! I have also moved his car seat from the middle to the passenger side. He is officially to heavy to get in the middle. The last change is shoes. Harper's feet can not fit into closed toe shoes. He has such a tall instep that only sandals fit. I sent him to church on Mother's Day with brand new saddle shoes and he cried the entire time. I had no idea why until I took off his shoes and saw the bruises:( This boy has some strange feet!

Harper learns something new everyday. He is putting more and more words together and it usually makes sense! This morning I put on my pool hat and he said, "Where is Harper's hat?" He is such a little sponge, soaking it all up! He surprises his mommy with all that he knows.

We were listening to music in the car when we were running errands. I turned off the car to get out and Harper started singing the ABC's! I had no idea that he knew them, we have never practiced the song. Then I started to think back to the music we listen to in the car, his fridge toys, and everything else that "sings" at home! I was super impressed!

Harper loves playing outside with his golf clubs, golf balls, and Daddy's golf cart. He is turning into a little golfer. People always comment on his golf swing and probably think that we are trying to make him a golfer. Unfortunately, he has taken an interest in golf all on his own! He is a little obsessive too! First thing he says when he wakes up from his nap is "Golf ball, golf ball!" We usually play "golf" all day when we are at home!

Harper also enjoys his fair share of reading. Sometimes he wants us to read to him, but other times he likes to read alone. I love how much he loves to "read!" He has a beginner's Bible and points to Jesus, Goliath (says, giant!), and baby Jesus. It's so cute.

When Harper and Baxter are inside together it is a ton of fun! Harper dances for Baxter and Baxter goes crazy barking. It just encourages Harper! Recently Harper has started to call him, "Dodger." He is always asking "Where Dodger go?" Harper and B are a package deal, so when we head to the grandparents, B is in tow!

The word No has up-ed its frequency at our house. Every time Harper is asked a question he shakes his head yes and says no. If he answers no, I try to correct him with yes ma'am. He will just repeat what I say, but has no clue what it means. He especially says no, when I try to hold his hand as we cross the street. Not a big fan of holding Mommy's hand.

We love our happy, healthy, little guy!

The Pick of the Patch

Check out the shorts...

Addy, Harper, and I loaded up the car and headed to Plantersville, TX to pick strawberries. It was a fun little roadtrip! When we arrived at the orchard there was a sign that said, "Please do not eat while you pick, we need to make a profit." I'm not sure how you tell a one year old not to eat the strawberries?? Just take a look at the after pictures, ie khaki shorts! Oops!!

We picked strawberries for about an hour and then found the blueberrie bushes and picked those. Harper loved eating the fresh fruit off of the vine. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of us actually picking. I wish I could have catured his facial expressions and the juice running out of his mouth and down his arms.

We picked close to 10 pounds. So far I have made a Spring Mix salad with fresh strawberries, and fruit pizza with strawberries and blueberries. YUM!

Water

We had the best time at the Waterway fountains this week. Now that it officially feels like summer we had to have a morning to cool off. And as if that wasn't enough fun, we went over to Addy and Poppy's house for some fun in their pool. This was Harper's first time in the pool since last summer. I wasn't sure how he was going to do, but he LOVED it! He once was a very cautious little boy, but not around water! He wanted to jump in and wouldn't even wait while I counted to three. Once he was in the water he didn't want to be held. I think it's time for floaties and swim lessons! Here are some fun pictures of our play date.

Things that make you say, hmmm

Harper has been really interested in the potty lately. Every time he walks into a bathroom he says tee-tee. He loves to flush the toilet and watch the water go bye-bye. I'm not sure if he is ready to be potty trained or just has a fascination with the potty. Lately, he pulls at his diaper and says tee-tee. The other day he walked into the kitchen and said, poo-poo. So I said, "Good boy lets go change your diaper." I picked him up and could feel his little bum.....sans diaper!! I immediately started looking for brown all over my couch! Fortunately, he had just taken off his dirty diaper and left it in the middle of the floor! So does this mean he is ready to start potty training? I have no idea where to begin! I feel like he is too young, especially for a boy!

I went to the store and bought a potty, but so far nothing. He loves to sit on it, but only for 15 seconds or so! Help!

More "Baizball"

On Wednesday night we were invited to go to an Astros game with The Carrs. We had just taken Harper the week before and he has not stopped talking about it! So we were so excited to take Harper to another "baizball" game. When we got to our seats he started staying, "Addy, Papa?" He thought for sure my parents would be there since they were last time. It is so cute how they pick up on things.

The roof was open so it was super hot. My little BOY was drenched in sweat. Such a mess. He loved playing with Brooklyn during the game. They are a pair of red-headed cuties!

500m.15miles.5k

Wow! I just completed my first triathlon. I have been so blessed to be apart of a triathlon team named I tri. Thanks to the help of Kevin Barr, an awesome man who gave so freely of himself and his resources, I did my first tri in 1 hour and 34 minutes! After months of swimming, biking, running, finding babysitters, juggling our schedules, and every thing else that has to get done, I did it!

I woke up at 5am this morning and headed to Northshore Park in the Woodlands. I was so nervous, but knew that I was prepared. I had done everything necessary to finish! As I arrived to the park I got body marked and went straight to the transition area. I set up my stuff by my bike and then nervously walked to the lake. The men went first so we got to watch them and get more nervous. Every 3 minutes waves of different age groups entered the water.

When it was my turn I nervously got in the cold, dirty, lake water and tread water until it was time to swim! I took it easy the first couple of minutes and tried to focus on my breathing. I can't even describe the feeling of racing in lake water. You can't see anything, no sense of direction, and people swimming all around you. I free styled the entire swim and didn't ingest too much lake water!

Done Transition 1, off to get my bike
Next was the bike leg. To train for the bike portion of the tri, I usually had Harper in a trailer on the back of my bike. So the bike portion was a breeze. Kevin told me to average at least 18 miles an hour on the bike and I averaged 21.5! I guess you can fly minus 30 pounds! I definitely got passed my a 60 year old lady too! I guess the older you are the better equipment you can buy! I enjoyed the bike leg because The Woodlands is so beautiful. It reminded me of riding my bike in Kingwood when I was growing up. In between each transition I would hear GO COCONUT! It was my dad cheering me on! I'm pretty sure there was no one else with that nickname! (I have no idea where it came from)

After the 15 mile bike came the run. I was so nervous about the run because I could hardly feel my feet at this point. I racked my bike and then headed full speed for the starting line of the run. I raced for about the first mile, then my feet started burning. I had decided to race with socks and because of a blister I had gotten the week before. Next time I will run with so socks! I got a rush of adrenaline the last half mile and it started to sink in that I had almost completed my first triathlon! I finished strong and just as I did I heard, Go Coconut!

Where is my bike???

Thanks Coach Barr

Team I-Tri

Wow, what a ride this has been! Without the help of God, Cam, friends, and my parents I would not have been able to do this. So Thank you so much for your encouragement! I can check this off my list of to dos! I have also made some sweet new friends too!!
